FLORA, BETWEEN PLANTS AND PEOPLE
/ MELLOM PLANTER OG MENNESKER
'Plants have always been important. However, the depiction and our use of them are historically and culturally biased and tells about our world view and how we perceive and value nature'.
–Vibece Salthe, curator.
The exhibition FLORA and the accompanying book look at artists' use of plants and flowers related to subjects like botany, gender, power, order/disorder and harmony.

Inspiration for the book design and exhibition identity was found in botany archives, herbarium, and the visual way nature has been historically represented. The academic format of the content is presented through a neat and classic typographic design. The typeface Mrs. Eaves brings both an organic and a feminist touch to the presentation. (A wonderful typeface designed by Zuzana Licko at Emigre Type Foundry. Mrs. Eaves honors one of the many forgotten women in the history of typography, Sarah Eaves, Baskerville's wife). Swiss binding makes the front cover of the book open flat, revealing the details of the carefully bound spine with a green thread. An elastic band keeps the book closed. Inspired by classical flower presses, you can easily collect flowers and dry them inside this book. Just remember to add an extra sheet of tracing paper for protection.
Outer cover features artwork by Gerd Tinglum, inner cover by Roland Persson. Title illustration by Ansten Studio is embossed on the cover. Hardback and halfbound with a green book cloth. A high quality uncoated paper is used throughout the book.
